On-premises infrastructure holds back growth

At Turbo’s Hoet Group, Europe’s largest independent truck dealership network, there is a clear ambition: to grow and diversify, both in terms of its product range and its activities. The group, headquartered in Hooglede, with over 1,300 employees and dealerships in 11 countries, supplies not only lorries and vans but also spare parts and excellent customer service.

To enable this growth, TH Group wanted to move towards operational decentralisation. A reliable, scalable IT environment with a high degree of flexibility is essential for this. However, the existing IT platform, which was based on a fully on-premises data centre centralised at the head office in Hooglede, was increasingly becoming an obstacle. “The growing wave of digitalisation in our sector should not be a threat, but rather a springboard to achieving our goals,” says Turbo’s Hoet. The challenge was therefore clear: to completely overhaul the current IT platform and build a future-proof IT infrastructure that ensures business continuity and supports growth.

A well-informed choice for the public cloud

To this end, TH Group turned to Savaco, their long-standing IT partner. Working with Savaco’s Hybrid Cloud experts, a structured process was put in place, divided into several phases.

They began with a Hybrid Cloud Strategy Assessment: an inventory of the existing infrastructure, mapping of application dependencies and a cloud readiness analysis. Savaco’s experts not only listened to the needs of the IT department, but also engaged with various stakeholders within the company to form a comprehensive picture of the organisation’s requirements and its business continuity needs. Based on this, it was decided to migrate to the Microsoft Azure public cloud. The hyperscalability and guaranteed uptime of this public cloud proved to be exactly what TH Group needed in an IT platform geared towards growth. A cloud transformation plan was then drawn up, providing a clear roadmap for the upcoming migration.

Phased migration to Azure

Savaco then carried out a phased migration in several ‘waves’, looking beyond the mere migration of workloads at every stage. “Certain workloads were moved to the cloud via a lift-and-shift approach, whilst for other workloads we took the opportunity to modernise them straight away with a view to the future. We also utilised Infrastructure as Code to ensure the platform’s scalability,” explains Koos Duppen, Business Line Leader Hybrid Cloud at Savaco.

In addition, Savaco implemented the necessary security and identity policies to secure the platform and set up a modern workspace for end users via Azure Virtual Desktop with FSLogix, ensuring an optimal remote working experience for TH Group staff.

Business continuity was maintained throughout the process, with the focus on ease of use for staff.

IT that supports business objectives

The migration was completed today. Now that TH Group’s IT environment has been running in the new public cloud setup for some time, the impact of this migration is becoming increasingly clear. TH now has an agile IT platform that supports all its locations and can be managed centrally. Their IT now aligns seamlessly with the company’s objectives. The figures speak for themselves:

  • 20–25% cost savings on infrastructure over three years.
  • 70% reduction in risk exposure thanks to improved security and compliance.
  • 40% reduction in manual interventions through server consolidation and automation.
  • Virtually no downtime during the migration and significantly improved remote access for users.

The impact of a reliable partner

Savaco’s cloud assessment proved to be particularly crucial throughout the migration process: it provided a clear picture of areas for improvement and objectives, as well as dependencies that would certainly need to be taken into account in the new setup. Savaco’s focus on automation and Infrastructure as Code also had a positive impact and significantly accelerated the roll-out. Bert Derluyn, IT Infrastructure Manager at TH Group, sums up the collaboration with Savaco as follows:

“Thanks to a virtually seamless migration, Savaco has enabled us to modernise our environment significantly. Our IT now has the scalability and security required to support our future growth.”

Savaco Atlas Managed Services: flexibility for Turbo's Hoet Group

Turbo's Hoet Group chose Savaco’s Atlas Managed Services not only to manage its IT environment, but also to continuously optimise it. Thanks to our three service levels, TH Group can determine exactly how much responsibility it wishes to retain:

  • Coached: TH Group manages its environment largely independently, whilst Savaco takes on an advisory role. This offers maximum autonomy with access to expertise when needed.
  • Co-managed: A shared approach in which Savaco is responsible for monitoring (via LogicMonitor), incident and problem management (via Xurrent), configuration management and security. Turbo’s Hoet Group retains control but benefits from our operational expertise.
  • Controlled: Full outsourcing of management, including change management and environment evolution. Savaco takes care of all operational concerns, allowing Turbo’s Hoet Group to focus on strategic projects.

Why does this approach work for Turbo’s Hoet Group?

  • Flexibility: Choose the right service level for each workload.
  • ITIL-based processes: Structured and reliable service delivery.
  • Transparency: SLA reports, cost management and governance for complete control.
  • Proactive optimisation: Workshops and GAP analyses ensure continuous improvement.

Migrating SQL servers to a modern infrastructure

To support the growth of Turbo’s Hoet Group and ensure long-term reliability, we implemented a replatforming strategy for their outdated SQL servers. The aim was to modernise the database environment with minimal disruption to business continuity.

Our approach

  • Analysis of legacy systems: Identification of performance bottlenecks and compliance risks in the existing SQL environment.
  • Migration to new virtual machines: Implementation of optimised VMs running the latest SQL Server versions for improved stability and scalability.
  • Introduction of Managed Instances: Use of SQL Managed Instances to simplify management and enable advanced features such as automatic backups, high availability and integrated security.

Key benefits

  • Improved performance: Faster query execution and more efficient use of resources.
  • Operational efficiency: Reduced maintenance thanks to Managed Services.
  • Future-proof architecture: A flexible foundation for hybrid or full cloud adoption.

With this replatforming initiative, Turbo’s Hoet Group has laid a solid foundation for its digital transformation, whilst ensuring that critical workloads continue to run securely and efficiently.
